When you first find out that you have an upcoming relocation to Vicksburg Mississippi, one of your first decisions is whether to look at new homes in Vicksburg Mississippi or existing homes in Vicksburg Mississippi. You can also contract to have a home built to your specifications. While it may be tempting to build a new home from scratch, you have to factor in the stress of not having a permanent home during the months of construction. You may want to consider “spec” homes that builders have almost completed. This will give you the freedom to choose colors and styles, but will also enable you to move into your new home shortly after your relocation to Vicksburg Mississippi. I have friends that lived in a 2 room efficiency motel for 5 ½ months (with 2 children and a dog!) while their home was being built. She told me that she would never do that again. She loved having a new home, but has decided that if she ever moves across country again, she will not subject her family to that experience again.
Incorporated in 1825, Vicksburg was created from the community of Walnut Hills and named after Newitt Vick, a Protestant minister and conscientious objector to the War of 1776. During the Civil War, Vicksburg was the site of the Battle of Vicksburg, an important battle in which the Union defeated the Confederacy and gained control of the entire Mississippi River. The battle, also known as the Siege of Vicksburg, consisted of a long siege brought about by the fact that the city is located on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River and thus was largely impregnable to invaders. The capture of Vicksburg and the simultaneous defeat of Lee at Gettysburg marked the turning point in the American Civil War. Because the city fell on July 4, 1863, the people of the city did not celebrate Independence Day for the next eighty-one years, until 1944. -- Source: Wikipedia.com AskMe a Question About Vicksburg, MississippiTo ask a question or make a comment about Vicksburg, Mississippi Click Here.
